WINS are developing a flexible PVDF sensor for the inspection of above- and under- ground pipelines from a single sensor position. In dry pipe, the technology may be used to inspect up to 100 feet from a single sensor position. In product-filled pipe, it may be used to inspect up to 60 feet. The defect sensitivity to pipe wall loss could be as small as 10% reduction in cross-sectional area. The sensor may also be installed permanently.

Inspection Procedure

  • An ultrasonic sensor is wrapped around the pipe OD.
  • Long range ultrasonic data is acquired in the upstream direction up to maximum distance.
  • Long range ultrasonic data is acquired in the downstream direction up to maximum distance.
  • Inspection results are interpreted to providing client wall loss severity and location.
